Argyle Mine Pink Diamonds

argyle pink diamond chartThe Argyle Diamond mine in Western Australia was the world’s largest supplier of pink and coloured diamonds, with 90% of the beautiful pinks coming from the mine. There has been huge speculation over the future value and investment return for these gems over the last few years. The current economic chaos caused by the Coronavirus has thrown another uncertainty into the fix. Ironically this event may be a catalyst to an increase in the current and future value.

While this topic is being debated widely in Australia it is interesting to see how the imminent mine closure is being viewed by pink diamond lovers and investors overseas. Check out this article in the South China Morning Post, which gives an interesting and positive viewpoint on the closure of the mine and the lack of supply.

There are two distinct types of people interested in coloured diamonds and they fall into two categories. Investors who purchase the diamonds solely with a view to earning an investment return greater then normal forms of investment.  Over the last ten years this has proven to be as shrewd investment decision with compound returns in excess of 10%.  The other buyers of Argyle Diamonds are jewellery lovers who purchase the diamonds to wear and enjoy every day.
